J. Cannon Obituary
J.Leigh Cannon 1937 ~ 2006 Our "MVP" J. Leigh Cannon (68), his wife's "Much Valued Partner," and his children's "Mighty Valuable Parent" passed away peacefully and with dignity March 2, 2006. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loved ones at home, after years of fighting many medical adversities, specifically cancer. All who knew him would award him the "Most Valiant Patient" award even though the impossible goal of "Most Victorious Patient" had eluded him. Leigh was born in Salt Lake City, July 27, 1937 to Julian S. Cannon and Ina T. Garff Cannon, the third of six children. He attended Salt Lake City schools, and the University of Utah. He served an LDS mission in the Australia South Mission. He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard and served on active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He married Marybeth Maw in June 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. He spent the majority of his working life employed by Inkley Photo in various sales and management positions. Since 1999 he and Marybeth have owned and operated Receivables Technology, LLC. Leigh was easy going, and a people person with a wonderful sense of humor who was dearly loved by family, friends, and those with whom he worked and associated. Leigh loved sports. He was especially fond of basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, and golf. He also loved to coach and was loved by his teams, both youth and adult. Leigh loved his Heavenly Father, His Savior and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. His life was filled with service in many teaching and leadership positions both in ward and stake capacities. He served in four bishoprics, three of which were in his beloved Mt. Olympus North 5th Ward. He especially cherished the six plus year calling as bishop, loving and serving his "flock." His ward family was a precious treasure of joy, strength and inspiration to him and his family. He is survived by his wife, Marybeth; his children, Brad, Lori, Melanie (Dan) Weber, Christopher; and a precious first grandson, Joshua Leigh Weber named after him. His brothers and sisters include Marilyn Crapo, Darrell (Kathy), Shawna (Larry) Mantle, Garff (Kim) and Julie; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Reed Crapo; and father-in-law, Harold Maw. The family expresses sweet gratitude to all his physicians, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and every member of his caring hospice team at CareSource. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, 2006, 12 noon at the Mt. Olympus North 5th Ward chapel, 3610 E. 3520 S, SLC, UT. Friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 6-8:30 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary 3251 S. 2300 E, SLC, UT and again Thursday morning at the church from 10:15-11:45 a.m., prior to the services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
