Don Cleetes Treuhardt, also known as Coach Don or Poppa, 89, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020, surrounded by his loving family on Father’s Day. Don was born on April 14, 1931, to Radie and Walter Treuhardt, in Holland, Texas.

Don graduated from Georgetown High School in 1949 where he was president of his Jr & Sr class, voted most handsome, played football, basketball, baseball, and boxing. He accepted a football scholarship to The University of Houston. His high school coach informed him Kilgore Junior College wanted him to come visit so he did with not even a thought of going to school there. They made him an offer he couldn’t turn down. He got a release from The University of Houston and enrolled in Kilgore Junior College on a football scholarship with many incentives. After he completed his years at Kilgore, he went to Sam Houston State University where he continued to play football. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and later returned to complete his Masters in Administration.

While attending Kilgore Junior College, he met and married the love of his life, Ann on November 28, 1952. After she left him here on earth, there wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t think of her and miss her dearly. They are now together again.

Don is survived by his one and only child Pam Aaron and husband Lee, granddaughter Heather Zeno and husband Terell, grandsons Aaron Henderson, Justin Aaron, and Lathe Aaron. He is also survived by two precious great granddaughters Rylee and Zoey Zeno. He loved his family more than life itself.

Don was known for his love of sports. His first year out of college, he took a coaching position in Baytown, Texas at Baytown Junior. The next two years he coached at Horace Mann and then went to Lee High School in 1956 where he spent the next ten years. While at Lee, he was the head baseball coach and backfield football coach. In 1961, he and his baseball team won the 4A State Baseball Championship. When Sterling High School opened in 1966, he became the assistant principal under Mrs. Winnie Brown. In 1972, he was named an administrative assistant in the personnel department and completed his career in education as associate superintendent. He retired from Goose Creek CISD in 1986.

In addition to holding memberships in numerous educational organizations, he served the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, the YMCA and other youth-oriented groups. After he retired, he enjoyed life to the fullest and spoiled his grandchildren and great grandchildren as much as possible. He will be dearly missed.

Pallbearers will be Lee Aaron, Aaron Henderson, Terell Zeno, Justin Aaron, Lathe Aaron, and Kelson Treuhardt. Honorary pallbearers will be Woody Walker, Ronnie Kluch, Dennis Trigg, Oz Hughes, Baytown Lions Club, and all the young men Don coached.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, June 24, 2020, from 5 pm – 7 pm at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 11:00 am at Memorial Baptist Church, 600 W. Sterling Ave. in Baytown, Texas.
