One of five men killed when UH-1C serial 66-00611 was shot down on Hon Voi Mountain about 10 kilometers south-southeast of Phu Loc village, Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.


Roger Bartholomew, Commanding Officer of 4th Battalion, 77th Artillery, was killed when the Huey helicopter he was piloting was shot down during an Aerial Rocket Artillery mission near Fire Base Tomahawk by extremely heavy small arms fire during an attack on an enemy position North of Da Nang.

Those in the helicopter were:

WO1 John W. Brinkmeyer, Co-pilot
LTC Roger J. Bartholomew, Pilot
SP5 Loren D. Martinsen, Crew Chief
SP4 Ernest L. Barber, Gunner
COL Edward B. Vogel

All were aboard a UH-1C Huey helicopter #66-00611 that was shot down over Thua Thien, Republic of Vietnam. All four crewmen were from the 77th Artillery Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division: WO John W Brinkmeyer, LTC Roger J Bartholomew, Spec Loren D Martinsen, and Spec Ernest L Barber. Col. Vogel, Commanding Officer of the 101st Airborne Division Artillery, was a passenger.
