John was born to George and Helen (Plaisted) Butcher. He was a 1955 graduate of Flint Central High School. He lived in Flint before relocating to Flushing where he resided most of his life. John enjoyed traveling and spending summers in New Hampshire and Maine, where he had many relatives. John had many interests. He was an avid Spartan fan, and loved collecting model cars and watching sports. John lived a good life. John had a quick mind and a sharp wit, which he enjoyed sharpening on the rest of us.

Despite his life challenges, he was fiercely independent and lived life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen; and siblings, Beverly (Stuart) Fitzpatrick, Nancy (Harold) Norton, Donald (Helen) Butcher, and Larry (Pamela) Butcher.
