Ex-Safety Director Headed Company
Albert P. Fall, Toledo businessman and the city safety director in 1928-1931 was killed last night in a traffic accident near Oberlin, O. He was 69.
Mr. Fall, president and general manager of Wel-Ever Piston Ring co., was a passenger in a car driven by Daniel G. Smith, 29, of Walbridge.
They were returning from Salem, O., when the car and a truck collided five miles southwest of Oberlin on Rt. 303. Mr Smith was admitted to Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin, where his condition was reported fair.
Mr Fall also was manager of Ace Products Co. and general manager of Ace's export division, Midwest Products Co. He lived at 2814 Sagamore Rd.
He was born and reared on the farm of his father, Fred W. Fall, on South Ave., about three miles from the present Toledo downtown business center.
Studied Engineering
He attended Davis Business College, walking to and from evening classes after his farm work was finished for the day. In 1906 he went to work for the Toledo Bridge & Crane Co., unloading cars of crushed stone with a hand shovel. He continued his education, and completed a correspondence course in mechanical engineering, advancing to the assistant superintendency of Toledo Bridge & Crane. While there, he helped C.E. Welever perfect a piston ring for autos. They later formed the Wel-Ever Piston Ring Co.
Always Interested in Autos
He kept up his interest in autos and made them his hobby as well as his business. He was a past president of the Toledo Automobile Club and was a member of the National Standard Parts Association. Mr. Fall, active in civic affairs, served as safety director under Mayor William T. Jackson. He also was a former member of the Toledo Zoological Society's board of trustees, took part in Community Chest drives, and was active in the Townsend movement.
Other Affiliations
He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Toledo Small Business Association, Toledo Chamber of Commerce, the Shrine and the Elks.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, daughter Mrs Ruth Post, Toledo; son, Emory A., Toledo; sisters Mrs Rose Bernier, Toledo; Mrs. Harold Robinson, Detroit, and Mrs George Dickhaut, Baltimore; brothers, Fred J., and Clarence W., both of Toledo; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Albert Fall was also married to Anna May VanBuren, daughter of Stephen G. & Lillian [Updegraff] VanBuren. Albert & Anna were one of the 1st couples to be married in Maplewood Church 22 Nov 1906. They had 3 children, Ruth, Dale and Emory.
