Ruby "Ruth" Myers Cook, daughter of Oscar Myers and Kate Letterman Myers, was born October 10, 1917, in Niangua, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, August 23, 2020, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of one hundred and two years, ten months, and thirteen days.
She was united in marriage on March 8, 1947 to Nelson H. Cook and to this union two sons, Harold and Dee and one daughter, Marcia Marie, were born.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nelson, on November 18, 1953; a son, Dr. Darrell Cook; three brothers, Edwill, Otto, and Roscoe; a sister, Maude, and a sister-in-law, Grace.Ruth is survived by a son, Harold Cook, and his wife, Carol, of Madison, Alabama; a daughter, Marcia Agan, and her husband, Roger, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Carla Cook Ballowe, of Centerview, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Shannon Glass, and her husband, Craig, Erin Schrage, and her husband, Steve, Allison Bible, and her husband, Neil, Scott Cook, and his wife, Jill, Jill Way, and her husband, Brian, Denise Hubbs, and her husband, Jonathan, Jeffrey Agan, and his wife, Andrea, and Timothy Agan; eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.She was born and raised in the Niangua community, and graduated from Niangua High School. She then taught school for a short time. After she and Nelson were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. Ruth was always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked as a cook in the Lebanon High School for a number of years. Later, she worked at various jobs including at Hughes Senior Citizen Center, Head Start, and the Cope House.Ruth was saved early in her life and was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.She enjoyed quilting, cooking for the family and visiting with her friends. She loved her children and thought they could do no wrong. She was very proud of her grandchildren for not only going to college, but also having made their professions of faith in Christ. She was devoted to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and loved them all equally.Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her long lifetime.A memorial has been established to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
