Mary Elizabeth FREELAND, daughter of Isaac FREELAND (Jr) and first wife Hannah A. COLTRANE. Mary married Thomas Allen, born Dec 1827 in Madison County, GA and died 1901. On the 1850 census, Thomas Allen is found living in the household of Isaac FREELAND (Jr) (see below).
Mary is the granddaughter of Revolutionary War soldier Isaac Freeland who served under General George Washington, including training at Valley Forge, and served for the duration of the War. Isaac befriended his Sgt Howell ELDREDGE for whom he later named a son Howell Eldredge FREELAND. Again Isaac served during the War of 1812. Isaac was granted Bounty Lands located in Ohio, but never went to Ohio, but rather settled with his family in North Georgia where he died.
Mary's father "Isaac FREELAND (Jr) was tried and convicted of murder, he was hanged April 15, 1859 in Forsyth County, Georgia- known as the Wildcat Murders in 1859."
Mary died some time between the 1880 census and 1899 when her husband Thomas ALLEN re-married.
