At an early age, JP accepted Christ as his personal savior, and he joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County.
JP attended Spotsylvania County Schools and was a proud member of the 1991 Spotsylvania High School graduating class. He loved sports and he was quite an athlete. JP especially enjoyed basketball and fishing. He was a basketball legend on the Loriella and Marshall Park courts. He was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins and Washington Wizards. Win or lose, they were always his teams. JP also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. Those who spent time with him would say that he knew everything that there was to know about cars. In addition to his love of sports, JP loved to cook. He was a great cook, and everyone enjoyed his meals.
On May 31, 1996, he married the love of his life and soul mate, Angela Rumuly. To this union two children were born, Alexis Pierce and Joseph Pierce, III. JP loved family. He enjoyed spending time with members of his family, especially his cousins on the “dirt road”.
At the time of his passing, JP was employed by Jones Sitework, where he was considered to be a valued employee. He will be missed by his co-workers.
JP was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ralph Pierce, Sr.; two sisters, Sandra Lewis and Ingrid Brown; his sister in law, Melanie Rumuly-Worth.
JP leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of twenty four years, Angela Pierce; his children, Alexis Pierce and Joseph Pierce III; his mother, Mrs. Betty Pierce; his father and mother in law, Mr. Maynard Rumuly and Mrs. Margaret Rumuly; five sisters, Linda Williams (Anthony), Brenda Dobbins (Joshua), Betty J. Brooks (William), Tammy Parker Hamn (Frederick) and Pamela Diggs (Robert); one brother Joseph Parker; one brother in law, Kennon Rumuly (Melissa); his sister in law, Heather Street (Bryan); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. JP was also a pet lover and he also leaves behind two dogs and one cat that will miss him dearly.
A viewing will be held at A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Piney Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to the pandemic, there will be no repast following the service.
