John was son of Gerald and Elizabeth Manning of Rouses Point NY and one of seven children. He was a WWII veteran and served in the Navy. While he was in the Navy, he married Virginia Kirkley and after his discharge they lived in Bellefonte, Delaware. He was working for the P.R.R. and he was accidently struck by an P.R.R. Express train while in the Bellevue station railyard.
