Lucille Sophie ( Maurer ) Scharnhorst was born September 4, 1930. She departed this world to be in God’s Hand on June 19, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Scharnhorst on October 8, 1987 and by infant granddaughter, Wendy Lynn Moore on May 16, 1973.

She was the last living sibling of 10 children born to Adolf and Delka Maurer. She attended the Junction School located just north of Stonewall and completed the 8 th grade. Many times the mode of transportation to school for her and some of her siblings was horseback. During her early years she worked hard on the family farm, which was owned by her parents.

She married Milton Scharnhorst on June 18. 1950. They were married for 37 years until his death in 1987. Karen and Darnell were born while they lived and worked on the Scharnhorst Ranch. They lived on the Scharnhorst ranch in the Post Oak community until the ranch was sold in 1956.

They then moved to the Penick Ranch, where Milton was foreman and she was house wife. During this time Janice and Keith were born.

Milton and Lucille and the four kids moved to the Buchanan Ranch in 1960. Milton was the ranch foreman, where Lucille continued to serve her husband and kids, again another example of a servant’s heart.

Lucille worked in the home for many years raising her children. She went to work at St. Ferdinand’s Church in 1965. She worked at the church for 3 years until they bought the Little Blanco Inn Restaurant in 1968. They owned and operated the Little Blanco Inn until they sold it in 1984. We have been told to mention her great bar-b-q sauce. They moved to Blanco and ran a rural mail route from 1984 to 1996. During this time Lucille would run the mail route and in the evening work as a waitress at the Blanco Bowling Alley.

After she fully retired, again with her servant heart she took communion to the homebound, was a “Candy Lady” at the nursing homes and enjoyed working at the Good Samaritan. She also volunteered at the Eagles Auxiliary bringing joy to special needs children by assisting with Easter Egg Hunts and Halloween Parties. The friendships and service with St. Ann’s Altar Society meant a great deal to her. She was also known to assist friends with rides to doctor appointments and shopping for essential items. Many friends and neighbors were recipients of homemade bread, jellies, and cookies.

Family and friends were important to her. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Lucille never let company visit without feeding a meal or dessert, depending on the time of day the company arrived. She enjoyed inviting friends in for a drink or a visit. She always said “if you don’t want me to go, don’t ask me”, which showed her love to travel. She got to see 38 states, Mexico and Canada. She had a servant heart and was loved by many. Her warm smile will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her four children, eight Grandchildren, twelve Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday June 23rd from 4PM to 7PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday, June 24th at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church in Blanco at 10:00 AM, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery located in the Twin Sisters Community. Due to the pandemic the family understands if you feel unable to pay your respects and ask that you keep the family in your prayers. Please be advised the church will be at 50% capacity.
