Pamela Cheryl Vaughn, 72, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away in her home on June 16, 2020.
She was born in Chattanooga, on April 12, 1948, to parents, Winifred Prater Vaughn and John Wood Vaughn, Jr.
After graduating from Riverside High School in 1965, Pamela went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Spelman College where she was crowned Miss Maroon and White and graduated as Salutatorian in 1969 before eventually earning a master's degree in the same field of study from the University of Michigan in 1972.
After completing her higher education, Pamela worked for General Electric in Atlanta, and AT&T/Lucent Technologies based in Short Hills, New Jersey. In her free time, she developed a love for travel and music. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, and converted to Catholicism at Holy Family in Plainfield, N.J..
Pamela was preceded in death by her father John Vaughn of Chattanooga, uncle George (Eleanor) Prater and cousin Grayce Stegall of Sweetwater, Tennessee and is survived by mother, Winifred Prater Vaughn and brother LaMonte (Georgia) Vaughn, Sr. of Chattanooga; daughter Stephanie Vaughn Clay and grandchildren Jaila Williams and Carter Clay of Woodstock, Georgia; niece Joanna (Chris) Evans of Augusta, Georgia and nephew LaMonte (Devonia) Vaughn, Jr. of Ruston, Louisiana and their families as well as first cousins, Georgette (David) Sharp, Doncella Inman, and Marlene Prater of Sweetwater.
The family has entrusted SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society with any posthumous services. An intimate ceremony is scheduled for June 25, at Forest Hills Cemetery in her hometown of Chattanooga, with close family and friends.
