Gary Reid Hamilton was born October 12, 1939 in Odebolt Iowa to Reid and Margaret Hamilton where he spent his early childhood until the family moved to Omaha. While attending school in Omaha, Gary was an active member of the ROTC and at one time boxed Golden Gloves. After school, he worked for NCR repairing cash registers and for several years owned a bar called The Chalet Lounge. Gary eventually found his calling working in a dental lab until he retired, designing and creating dental implants, crowns or bridges to help make others lives better. Gary was never one to sit still for long. He loved to hunt but mostly fish and would spend time at his cabin at Diesel Lake in Cedar Creek, not far from where his parents lived. When he wasn't checking out what was in the lake, he was checking his lines in the Platte River on the back side of Diesel. His children could share many stories of the good times at the lake and begging him to race down the "fun hills" on the way there. In the fall, he would always spend a week or two deep sea fishing in Port Aransas TX in the Gulf, where his parents would winter. After they passed, Gary continued to travel there for many years every October. He would proudly tell his humorous and exciting fishing stories and was happy to show off pictures of any of his mounted catches to anyone who asked. Gary also loved to garden. He was always fond of his tomato plants but was willing to try his green thumb at just about anything. Gary R. Hamilton passed from this life, peacefully, at his home, on June 15, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; his parents Reid and Margaret and one grandson, Bryce Schany.
Left to honor his memory are his children Sherry (Bruce) Schany and her children Cody and Jake; Douglas Hamilton with his children Adam, Natalie, Andrew and Abby; Jeffrey Hamilton and children Shana, Rachel, Nicole; Doug (Kathy) Hiemstra and his children Danielle and Thomas; and Laura (Bob) Milenkovich with their children Kristina and Michael; 17 great grandchildren, his sister Deb (Larry) Sharon, his great friend of many years, Joe Wood, as well as many other family and friends. PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICES held at Westlawn Hillcrest Memorial Park.
