The Landrum, South Carolina native was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive officer of Southwind, Ltd., of Columbia. Since 1977, Southwind, Ltd. has been engaged in the development and management of commercial office, retail and parking space. Among the properties the company has developed are the Wachovia Building, 1333 Main Building and First Union Building in Columbia. Southwind also developed the First Union Capitol Center in Raleigh, Nations Plaza in Spartanburg and 111 Franklin Plaza in Roanoke. Since 1991, Bagwell and Southwind have been active in real estate development activities with First Union National Bank in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida.
Mr. Bagwell's education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wofford College,
Spartanburg, S.C., Magna Cum Lade, in 1970, Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., in 1971, and the University of South Carolina, PhD. Program, written and oral comprehensive exams completed in June, 1972.
Mr. Bagwell's experience in the areas of marketing, management, finance, accounting and economics and his expertise in the development, leasing and management of commercial real estate, led Southwind, Ltd. to become a leader in the revitalization of downtown areas. Mr. Bagwell's professional and honorary associations include Delta Phi Alpha (National Honorary German Fraternity), Omicron Delta Epsilon (National Honorary Society in Economics, Beta Gamma Sigma (National Honorary Society in Business Administration, Phi Beta Kappa, Southern Economic Association, American Academy of Political and Social Science, American Marketing Association, and Doctoral Club in Business and Economics, University of South Carolina, President 1971 - 1972. Among his publications is "The Commercial Bank and The Corporate Funds Manager - Past Time for Change", published in the Journal of Commercial Banking in September, 1978.
Mr. Bagwell leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marianne J. Bagwell.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 1995, at First Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C. The family will receive visitors at Dunbar Funeral Home (Gervais Street), Columbia, S.C., Saturday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC or the American Heart Association of SC, P.
