Charlotte Mae Snider was born February 10, 1922 in Ohio, the daughter of Sidney R. and Nellie Irene Snider nee Merritt. Charlotte's father was a chemistry teacher. Her paternal grandfather was a machinist, and her paternal great-grandfather was a minister. Charlotte's mother died August 5, 1922 in Lima, Ohio, when Charlotte was five months old. Shortly thereafter, Charlotte's father married Kathryn Atkinson.

The 1930 Census finds Charlotte living with her parents and sister in Orange County FL. Family lore indicates that Charlotte did not want to have children because her mother died at childbirth. Since the 1930 Census indicates her parents were married in 1926 and Charlotte was born in 1922, Kathryn Snider was her step-mother. In 1940, Charlotte was single, 18, and living at home with her parents and half-sister, Mary Jean Snider.

Charlotte was always a very attractive woman ... some recall she was somewhat vein and couldn't pass up looking at herself in a mirror. Charlotte married Alexander ("Cy") Crawford Palmer on July 29, 1944 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Washington, DC. But, as a young woman, a nephew to be recalls she and Arthur "Bussy" Western going together ... hand-and-hand at Langdon Park in Washington DC. Charlotte and Cy Palmer were divorced in St. John's County FL in 1955.

Charlotte married Nicholas C. Western on September 17, 1955 at McKendree Methodist Church in Washington DC. Charlotte and Nick would be frequent visitors to the Hoover-Patterson-Hubscher residence in Mt. Rainier after the passing of Margaret Western Hoover, Nick & Bussy's mother. Weekend card games, accented by drinking and smoke-filled rooms, was the norm and the cast of characters (family and friends) was ... interesting!

Nick and Charlotte purchased a new home at 7807 Powhatan Street in New Carrollton MD on December 22, 1961. Her name was spelled Charlotte "M." Western on this deed, but on subsequent deeds she signed her middle initial as "S".

Later in life after Nick's passing, Charlotte had a second affair with Bussy, even though he was married to Doris Western ... Peyton Place, revisited.

On January 6, 1975 she transferred part of her interest in her home to Mary Jeanne Knott, herr sister. On October 17, 1975 Charlotte and Mary Jeanne Knott sold all of their interest in the New Carrollton property.

On July 9, 1981, Charlotte Mae Western married Joseph William Pope in Miami-Dade County FL., who was about ten years younger than her.

Charlotte S. Pope died September 8, 2000 in Miami FL, and was buried next to her third husband, Joseph W. Pope, on September 14th at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle VA, in Section 1, Grave 6725. Charlotte was residing at 4837 SW 135th CT, Miami FL 33175 at her passing.
