Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and she leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 64 years, Roy S. Freeman, Jr., son, Michael K. Freeman, and daughter, Kimberly Freeman. She is also survived by her sister, Estell Branch of Tenaha, Tx, brother, Jim Dawson of Waxahachie, TX, niece, Alice Ross, and husband Terry Ross, of El Dorado, AR, and nephew, Jerry McIlveene of Denham Springs, LA, as well as several great-nieces.
Joyce spent many years working as a court reporter for the State of Arkansas, before moving to Shreveport, LA, where she worked in retail sales at Beall-Ladymon, and later, Stage Department Stores, until her retirement in 2011.
Joyce was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She was also very compassionate, and had a soft spot for homeless animals, especially dogs. She had four dogs that she loved and who miss her very much. She was creative and loved doing crafts, sewing and knitting, working in her yard, bowling, listening to music and dancing. She was also a big Elvis Presley fan, and was fortunate to have visited Graceland twice! Joyce was truly a special lady with a heart of gold. She will be forever missed, until we meet her again....
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20th, at 1:00pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd. Shreveport, LA 71108. A celebration of her life and get-together with friends and family will take place after the service, at the "Round-Up Room", LA State Fairgrounds, 3701 Hudson Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71109.
