Spouse: Edward W Schmidt
Joyce Ann Schmidt, 92, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020. She was born on September 8, 1927 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of the late George and Esther (Lantz) Hershey.
Joyce Ann was one half of the Crafty Couple with her husband Ed, with whom she spent many happy decades expressing her creativity. From oil paintings to wood crafts, Joyce Ann brought joy to family with hand-crafted Christmas ornaments and personalized gifts. Joyce Ann professionally decorated cakes and sewed square dance clothes. Her wit was as sharp as her sewing needles, and she loved to weave a story with the "monthly cousin's lunches", where she would sip coffee and chat for hours. Being social and belonging to community was important to Joyce Ann. She worked at Robinson's Auto Supply, actively supported the congregation of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aurora, and even stepped-out with her husband in a square-dancing club. She enjoyed camping with the family and later enjoyed "glamping" with Ed. Later in life, she spent winters in Texas. Most important to Joyce Ann, though, was her family, who will miss her with the same zest that Joyce Ann brought to her own life.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Jim) Walden; her son, Gary (Vicki) Schmidt; her sister, Sandy (Clint) Wolf; her grandchildren, Nicole (Bill) Fader, Jason (Melanie) Walden, Amanda Walden, Tonya Schmidt, Gary Joe Schmidt and Chad Schmidt; her many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Joyce Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward W. Schmidt.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 11 am until the service hour of 1 pm at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL. Interment was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
