Anne G. Nelson, age 91, formerly of Canby, MN, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020, at Pacifica Senior Living in Peoria, AZ. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Canby, MN. Friends and family are invited. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby and Best Funeral Home in Peoria, AZ provided the arrangements. Memorials may be given to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Canby.
Anne Grace (Klingenberg) Nelson was born March 1, 1928 in Sanborn, MN to Martin and Grace (Barth) Klingenberg. She attended rural schools and graduated with honors from Springfield High School in 1945. She attended the University of Minnesota and Lamberton Teacher's Training School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Mankato State College in August 1966. She took off-campus classes in Canby, Pipestone, Marshall and Granite Falls, as well as two summer sessions in Mankato to earn her teaching degree.
Anne married Duane (Ted) Nelson on August 18, 1951 in Morgan, MN. They moved to Canby and Ted set up his chiropractic practice. Anne taught in one-room schools in Brown, Redwood, Stevens and Yellow Medicine counties, and then for 23 years at Canby Elementary School.
She was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Over the years she taught Sunday School, Released Time, Bible School, and took the Bethel Series. She served on the Education Committee, Bazaar Committee, and was president and treasurer of WELCA. She was on the OSL Fair Committee, and worked at the Yellow Medicine County fair booth many years. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, making many items to sell, and playing bridge. She served in various roles at Eastern Star. She was an avid golfer and set a course record at Canby Golf Club.

Anne and Ted traveled the United States and Canada in a motorhome, visited relatives in Denmark and went on cruises. They enjoyed living on Lake Cochrane in South Dakota for many years and were snowbirds in Arizona.

Anne is survived by five children: twins Pamela (Peter) Wendt, Peoria, Arizona; Patricia (Joel) Fridgen, Greencastle, Pennsylvania; Paula (Hal) Havisto, Onalaska, Wisconsin; Peggy (Richard) Aguilar, Reno, Nevada; and Todd, Silverthorne, Colorado; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Lucille and Ella; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Ted, her husband of 64 years, on October 3, 2015; and siblings Margaret, John, Hattie, Minnie, Martin, George, Calvin, and Louise.
