Lou Vina Jenkins was born November 13, 1916 in Mayes County, Oklahoma, near Vinita , one of eight children born to Henry Jenkins and Hester Eva (Fields) Jenkins. Lou Vina moved to Tulsa in 1939 with the Gladys Green family. She attended the Adult Learning Center and received her High School diploma. She then attended Tulsa Business College where she was on the honor roll and earned a Professional Secretary Certificate. She attended the Greater Lansing Church of God in Christ where she worked as church general secretary. Later she became Oklahoma Northwest Jurisdictional Chairlady for the youth department. She served as local Sunday School President and Sunday School Teacher, Young People Willing Worker teacher, Bible Band President, Missionary, and bank committee and finance secretary. She had the opportunity to meet Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, the founder of the Churches of God in Christ Organization. She was also a licensed missionary.
She says she lived through many fads, such as navigating through life without GPS, calling on Jesus without a smart phone or even searching for answers without Google. She loved all music, but "Love Lifted Me" was her favorite hymn. She said her secret to longevity was living a "saved life". "No matter what age you are, you can never stop dreaming, praying, laughing, loving, sharing and teaching.
