Rev. Peter Thacher, youngest s. of Rev. Thomas Thacher and Elizabeth Partridge, likely b. at Weymouth, Mass. where his father was then pastor, but bapt. of record at Salem, Mass. July 18, 1651. He d. at Milton, Mass. Dec. 17, 1727, Æ 77.
[An extended bio will be added later]
The purported inscription on his grave says:
"The Rev'd Mr Peter Thacher the first Pastor of the Church at Milton who died Dec'r 17th 1727 in the 47th year of his Pastorate."
His death in the Milton Church record, written in the hand of Rev. John Taylor, says:
"The Revd Mr. Peter Thacher (after above 46 years eminent Service in the Ministerial office in the Town of Milton) died on ye 17th of Decr. 1727. Blefsed are the Dead yt is in the Lord."
Rev. Thacher and his second wife Susanna (Wilkins)(Bailey) Thacher are joined on the same momument with Rev. John Taylor, and the latter's wife, Elizabeth (Rogers) Taylor. This is odd, as Rev. John Taylor was Rev. Peter Thacher's successor, and neither Taylor nor his wife have any known blood relation to the Thacher family.
