Virginia M. Powers, 89, passed away on June 15, 2020, at Kansas City Hospice House. At the time of her death, her loving devoted husband Robert and niece Marietta were at her side. "Gin" and "Mary" shared a close, unique, loving bond. Mother and daughter, aunt and niece, and great friends! Virginia was born on December 15, 1930 in Sedalia, Missouri to Joseph and Mahalia Smith. Virginia grew up in Sedalia. She graduated from C.C. Hubbard High School in Sedalia 1948.

After high school she attended Theology college for 2 years in Kansas City, Missouri. Virginia entered the workforce. She was employed at JB Toy, the Internal Revenue Service, Lake City Army Ammunition and was last employed at Truman Medical Center in the housekeeping department. Virginia married the love of her life, Robert L. Powers, "Bob" in 1986 in Miami, Oklahoma. They were happily married for 33 years.

She passed away just 5 days short of their 34th wedding anniversary. Robert affectionately always called Virginia "V.A." V.A. loved traveling with Bob, the destination usually was Las Vegas, Nevada for bowling tournaments. While Bob went on to win many bowling trophies, Virginia won a few of her own. They spent time enjoying jigsaw puzzles and word search.

She also enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers from each state they visited, she has quite an extensive unique collection. Virginia, a member of Prince of Peace Missionary Church was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mahalia Smith; sisters, Lena Bailey, Gloria E. Williams and Helen L. Allen; brothers William Clement, Joseph O. Smith, Leonard L. Smith and Lewis F. Smith.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband Robert L. Powers; one brother Charles Smith (Marva) of Sedalia, Missouri, one sister, Josephine Ross of Washington DC; loving and caring nieces, Erica Thompson, Renita Henderson and Marietta D. Harris; 16 nieces and nephews along with a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, long time friends Helen, Ruby and Ernestine and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Services were held on Thursday June 25th at Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel, 1800 E Linwood Blvd KCMO. Interment Mt. Moriah.
