Army Cpl. Pollard was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Pollard died in Multaka of injuries sustained when his Blackhawk helicopter crashed during nighttime operations. Jessy was a 2003 graduate of Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri where he played football and basketball. In high school, teachers remember him as the real deal – nothing phony about him and a kid trying to find his place in the world. He had thought about being a soldier for a long time and after graduation, he joined the Army and volunteered for Ranger school. At over 6' 4", he was such a big guy that he served as backup for the commanding officer of his platoon. He shipped out late last year and was able to come home to see his family on leave just weeks ago. Jessy was the kind of person that people loved to be around – he had just enough orneriness in him to keep things interesting. He was excited to join the military and planned to make it his career. As a paratrooper, Jessy loved to tell his family stories about jumping out of planes at night – he died doing something he really believed in.

NOTE: On October 24, 2008, the commingled remains of Capt Corry P. Tyler, Chief Warrant Officer Paul J. Flynn, Sgt Matthew L. Tallman, Spc Rickey L. Bell, Capt Derek A. Dobogai, Staff Sgt Jason L. Paton, Sgt Garrett I. McLead, Cpl Jeremy P. Bouffard, Cpl Phillip J. Brodnick, Cpl Joshua S. Harmon, Cpl Nathan C. Hubbard, Spc Michael A. Hook, Spc Jessy G. Pollard, and Spc Tyler R. Seideman were buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
