Robert Morton Lanford, 65, of Gordonsville, passed away at his home on Monday, March 18, 2013. He was born on April 18, 1947, in Louisa County, the son of the late Sarah Coleman Lanford and Reuben Coleman Lanford Sr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Coleman Lanford; brother-in-law, Richard Baker; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Ryan Lanford. Morton is survived by his wife of 38 years, Millie McGhee Lanford; a daughter, Sharon Rose Lanford; a granddaughter, Magaret "Maggie" Marie Gay; his three brothers, Henry Lanford, Sammy Lanford, Reuben "R.C." Lanford Jr. and wife, Edith, all of Gordonsville; five sisters, Cindy Lanford of Gordonsville, Louise Workman of Louisa, Susan Baker of Orange, Sadie Nicklow and her husband, Gerald, of West Virginia, Barbara Swane and her husband, Gerry, of Louisa. Morton was a painter at Woodberry Forest School in Madison for 34 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming all of his life and helping his brother Henry on the farm everyday. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a generous friend to many. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church. The Reverend Dr. Dale Ferneyhough will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013,at the Preddy Funeral Home, 250 West Main Street in Orange. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, 17447 Mallory's Ford Road, Gordonsville, VA 22942.
