BRADY-Donna L. Brady, known to many as "Brady," was born May 1, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Pauline and Edward L. Brady. She died August 4, 2009, at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Baldwin Park, California.

Brady came to the local area in 1965 and had a distinguished career as a teacher/conselor for over 30 years in the Bassett Unified School District. After her retirement in 1999, she continued teaching part-time for the Tri-Comminity A dult School. Concurrently, she practiced her true passion in the service of others by volunteering at the West Covina Senior Center where she also led bereavement groups. As a volunteer, she assumed the duties of Assistant Chaplain at the Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina.

Words which define Brady are integrity, strong will, and a highly developed work-ethic. She demonstrated these characteristics in her early-life career as a professional for the Kansas City, Missouri, Council of Camp Fire Girls, serving C.I.T. and camp directorships at Camp Shawnee. She also formed and directed the "Firelighters," a singing group which preformed on both coasts.

Brady had a passion for reading fiction, playing tennis, and was known especially for her deep devotion to the welfare of dogs, as well as to all other animals.

She was predeceased by her parents and her step-father, Harold Campball of Edina, Missouri. She is survived by her brother, Edward D. Brady and sister-in-law, Kathy, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sister, Lynn and brother-in-law, Duane Geiken, of Raymore, Missouri; her cousins, Ethel and Walter Powell of Kansas City, Missouri, and their extended family; and Helen Broing, her partner for 39 years.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 N. Third Ave., Covina, CA. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your own favorite charity. Just recently Brady spoke of George H.W. Bush's "1,000 points of light" and of how much she wished that people would demonstrate such a philosophy.

According to her decision made many years ago, her ashes will be scattered at sea by The Neptune Society.
