Sgt. 1st Class Michael J. Tully of Falls Creek, Penn., graduated from Brockway High School in 1992 where he played football and was a National Honor Society student in his junior and senior years. He lived in South Park until the age of 7, when his parents divorced. He and his brother stayed with their father in Upper St. Clair and Bridgeville. The family eventually settled in Falls Creek, Jefferson County. In February 1993 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving four years as an underwater reconnaissance diver. About a year after his discharge, he wanted another challenge in his life so he joined the Army in 1997. He then served as a LRSD assistant team leader in the same unit one year later before earning the coveted "Green Beret" after graduating from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2006. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal. He was 33.
