James Earl “PeeWee” Blanton, age 84, of Wallace, passed from this life to his eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

He was born July 1, 1935 in Duplin County, the son of the late Walter James and Lillie Mae Bowen Blanton. He was also predeceased by his son, Jimmy Blanton and sister, Judy Blanton Chestnutt.

James Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was active in the US National Guard for 5 years and served in the army for 3 years. He loved his country and was proud to be an American.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and soulmate of 30 years, Rhonda Hatcher of Wallace; daughter, Christa Blanton Bass and husband, Edward of Kenansville; son, Stephen Craig Blanton of Kenansville; 6 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother; Bobby Blanton of Wallace; sister, Linda Blanton Kuhn of Wilmington; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved James Earl dearly.

James Earl or “PeeWee”, as most family and friends affectionately called him, was a humble man who stayed to himself and tended to his own business. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was his family and friends. James Earl will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

At the request of James Earl, he will be cremated. There will be a graveside inurnment later at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
