Leonard "Andy" Anderson Pierce, Jr , 75 of Ottumwa, Iowa died June 3, 2020 from complications of Covid 19. He was born on July 18, 1944 in South Boston, MA to Leonard A. and Evelyn Butler Pierce.

He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Nauset Regional High School, Cape Cod, MA 1958-62, B. S. from Plymouth State University class of 1968 and M.A. Physical Sciences Indiana University class of 1970. He was the athletic director of Indianapolis Athletic Club as swim coach and taught Olympic bound students including Mark Spitz.
Andy joined the U. S. Marines during the Vietnam War and received the Leatherneck Award in 1964. He subsequently became an insurance agent in Indianapolis and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa after being hired by a new company called Life Investors. He moved to Ottumwa, Iowa and worked for and eventually took over the J. Max Kapp Agency. Life Investors evolved to TransAmerica and he was in charge of the Pierce Financial Group. He was licensed with approximately 35 different companies. A few of his achievements include President of Ottumwa Association of Life Underwriters 1982-83, Board of Directors Iowa Association of Life Underwriters 1983 through 1991, President Iowa Association of Life Underwriters 1989-1990., Ottumwa Association of Life Underwriters Underwriter of the Year Award 1989-1990, Life Investors sales awards for annuity and sales representative, Iowa State Association of Life Underwriters excellence in management 1990, Million Dollar Round Table 1982 through 1994, Fortuners Club Life Investors Company of America 1973, 1978, 1984, 1989, 1994, 2005, Life Investors Insurance Century Club 1986. He was a member of the Ottumwa A Club, President of Noon Lions 1982-83 and President of Ottumwa Country Club 1996. Andy became a world traveler by qualifying for numerous trips with Life Investors.

Andy married Jo Anne Sheets April 20, 1977 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Children include Brad Covington, Ottumwa, Iowa and Erinn Pierce, Ottumwa, Iowa. Grandson Isaac L. Mills, Ottumwa, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and sister Anne.

Andy enjoyed golf and tennis at Ottumwa Country Club and was in a weekly card group. In his youth and college years, he excelled in basketball, soccer, and loved swimming at the many ponds and beaches on Cape Cod. He had a passion for the Indy 500 and attended as often as possible. He helped coordinate the Ottumwa Jr. Miss Pageant for many years.
Andy was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a board member and taught adult Bible study. When Erinn started showing Arabian horses, Andy was very supportive. Every summer for years he drove the family to shows all over the country including Scottsdale, Albuquerque, Lexington, and Canada. Andy decided to try his hand at showing our top halter horse and ended up winning three Regional Championships that summer.

His body has been cremated. Andy wished to be laid to rest next to his sister, Anne, in South Wellfleet, MA. No services are planned due to the Covid 19 pandemic. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society, Ottumwa, Iowa, Ronald McDonald House Charieties Inc or Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust.
