Services for Melissa Joy Majors Adamson, 63, of Kilgore will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2020, at First Baptist Church Liberty City, with Reverend Keith Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Kilgore Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Adamson passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at a Tyler area hospital.
She was born April 23, 1957, in Carthage, Texas to the late Perry Lynn and Nancy Hall Majors. She married David Francis Adamson in 1986. Melissa grew up in Kilgore, Texas. She was blessed with many gifts, which she used to enrich the lives of countless people. To quote a close family member: “She was THE most talented human being on the face of the planet: comedian, actress, artist, singer, educator, scrapbooker, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother ...CHRISTIAN. She is the reason I love game nights and hand lettering, and I aspire to be like her in so many ways. She was a bright, shining light.” A long-time family friend shared, “I loved Melissa like a sister. She was so unique -- so talented, bright, funny, popular, pretty and she had common sense and could be such a lady at times then totally goofy and fun at other times. Frankly, she had it all. How fortunate we all were to have her in our lives.”
Melissa grew up active in youth programs at Eastview Baptist Church, Kilgore, and spent two years majoring in Theater at Kilgore College. She continued her education, graduating from Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater and Music. At both KC and MSU, she appeared in multiple stage plays and musicals. Two summers, she spent on several mission projects, including performing as a vocalist with the fine arts team at the Grand Canyon National Park, and a similar team performing in the Philippines. Melissa remained in Wichita Falls, active in choir at Faith Baptist Church, and worked at Wichita General Hospital; for a time she performed in a contemporary Christian duo, co-writing some music and lyrics as well.
Later, she returned to Kilgore, where she met her helpmate, David, who quickly learned about the remarkable woman he had married as they began their extraordinary life journey together. Melissa delighted in becoming an instant mom to two sons, and felt her life was complete when they welcomed two more sons into their family. They joined First Baptist Church Liberty City, where Melissa became involved in their music programs.
During this time Melissa began working on the Kilgore College campus at the box office of the theater and worked tirelessly during the inaugural season of the Texas Shakespeare Festival. Eventually, she was a homemaker for several years during her youngest sons’ years of school at Sabine. Ready to join the workforce again, Melissa earned her teacher certification, qualifying to teach for several years at Sabine Elementary School and continuing her passion for music education.
Enthusiastically joining another form of ministry, the family hosted exchange students from across the world, including Hong Kong, Japan, Brazil and Kenya. The students became a part of their family, and they relished the sharing of cultures, learning just as much from the students as the students learned from the family.
Melissa and her family have a love of traveling, family game nights, history, camping, watching movies and documentaries, working on creative projects, and even worked together as a family to build their dome home. David and Melissa were a team who complemented each other through their gifts and talents. Their faith and family were the most important thing to each of them. Melissa was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her.
Melissa is survived by her much-loved husband, David, of Kilgore; her four sons: Myles Adamson and his wife, Katy, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and their children, Eli, Noelle, Noah and Olivia; Jesse Adamson and his wife, Danielle, of Longview, and their son, Asher; Martin Adamson and his wife, Kristi, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, their son, Titus Adamson and his wife Keisha, plus their son, Malachi, and their daughter, Eraina Burquez and husband Cris, also of Colorado; Marvin Adamson of Houston, Texas; Melissa’s siblings, Marsha Edney and her husband, Clifton, of Kilgore; Melanie Majors-Siers and her husband, Stephen, of Kilgore; Scott Majors and his wife, Lisa of Kilgore; Ben Majors of Forney, Texas; her sister-in-law Myra Adamson McCloud; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry Lynn and Nancy Hall Majors; aunts, uncles, and cousins, Penny Reagan Fruge, Donna Majors, Marilyn Majors Haisten and Bobby Majors.
