Born in Ocilla, Ga., she came to St. Augustine in 1955, at the age of two years old. Her early education started at the Saint Benedict School, then Excelsior and Webster Elementary Schools. Upon graduating Webster after six grades, she went to Richard J. Murray High School, graduated in 1970. She then attended Bethune College and Flagler College respectively. She later graduated from the Florida College of Medical and Dental Assistants and began employment with Dr. Smith DDS, In Jacksonville, Fl. She worked for Dobbs Book Binding for many years before she finished High School and after. In 1981 she started working for the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, where she stayed for 28 years. She retired in Oct 2010.
She held membership in American Legion Auxiliary Post 194, Heroines of Jericho, and former Sophisticated Club, NAACP, also past secretary. She was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, former Sunday school sectary, teacher, Assistant Superintendent, Usher Board member Choir member of both I and II, former steward and Trustee. She was a stewardess. She also helped her mother in the kitchen for many years. She also was church secretary for many years.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving daughter, Tiffany Holmes and grandchildren Tyler and Trinity Holmes all of St Augustine, Brenda Skinner (Fredrick), Belinda Carmichael, George Pooler; devoted godchildren, Rashaad Reid, Oblisa Gilliard, Whitney Pooler; devoted friend, Herman Wilder and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home and funeral services will be private. Interment will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
