A SAD DEATH
From the Columbus Advocate.
It is with deep sadness we are called upon today to chronicle the sudden death of one of our most respected citizens, Birdie McDowell, wife of S. O. McDowell, editor of teh Star Courier. Thursday last she was stricken with a chill, followed by prostration. Medical aid was summoned, and all that human agency could do was done for her relief, but all to no purpose. Lovings hands were continuosly at her side to alleviate her suffering as far as was in their power, but the power of fate ws greater than theirs. It semmed from teh first that the end of life's journey had come, her usefulness was at an end and that she must go.
Deceased was in her 46th year of life and had spent 28 of those years in Columbus. This was her home. Although absent a few years her absence was temporary. She had a large circle of friends not only in this city and community, but over the state where she has temporarily resided. Of enemies she had none. She had a motherly sweet word and a cheerful smile for all.
In society, while quite reserved, with total lack of gush, yeat always did her part to make the surroundings pleasant for all. As a wife, kind and affectionate; as a mother, lovings and devoted; as a neighbor, obliging and agreeable and as a citizen she shed only a ray of sunlight. With her the bright side of life was kept in view that those around her would feel more cheerful and happy. Deceased leaves a sorrowing husband and a heart brokern daughter (Mrs. Maud Pye) to mourn her absence. What for so many long years had been home, will be home no more. For what is a home without a mother? The sorrowing ones have the sympathy of the whole community in their sad bereavement and none share deeper sympathy than the Advocate.
The funeral of Mrs. McDowell occurred this afternoon at 2:30 from the M. E. church in Columbus.
