Fred N. Young, 89, of Texico, Illinois, passed away at 2:05 pm June 16, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born May 31, 1931 in Bluford, Illinois to the late Robert S. "Tiny" and Lou (Maxey) Young. Fred married Betty (Chambliss) Young on August 17, 1952 in Marlow, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 68 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Fred is survived by his daughter, Betty Jo Oliger and husband, Jon of Belle Rive, Illinois; grandchildren, Andrea Hetzel and husband, Matt in Carmi, Illinois, Timothy Oliger and wife, Naomi of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Samuel Oliger and wife, Felecity of Texico, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Joshua Oliger, Ezekiel Nelson Oliger, Micah Oliger, and Emmilia Oliger, all of Mount Vernon, and Kaden Hetzel of Carmi; brother, Ralph Young and wife, Peggy of Argenta, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Robert S. Young; and sisters, Betty Lou Young, Iola Poole, Marjorie Forbes, and Marian Apgar. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked at the Bluford Railroad Roadhouse and then later moved to Washington DC, where he worked as a mechanic. He continued his work as a mechanic in Bloomington, Illinois, before he moved to Texico. He worked for 10 years at Prairie Farms delivering milk and also worked in Texico for 33 years as a postmaster. Fred was a faithful member of Panther Fork Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was the superintendent of the Sunday school and a trustee. Fred served on the Field Grade School board. He was an avid traveler. Throughout his life, Fred visited all 50 states, as well as Mexico and Canada. Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Visitation will be held Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Oakdale Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend. John Ashby officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Fred's honor to Panther Fork Cemetery or Oakdale Cemetery.
