Gary Ronald Buell, age 86 of Charleston, was welcomed into Heaven by his wife and other family who have gone before him, on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. A Graveside Service, honoring and celebrating his life, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon with Reverend Tom Farris officiating. A Private Visitation will be held for his family at Adams Funeral Chapel. Memorials in his honor may be made to the American Red Cross and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Ron was born June 4, 1934 in Mattoon, Illinois, one of four sons born to the late Herman E. and Gladys (Glosser) Buell. Ron was a 1954 graduate of Charleston High School and served with the Illinois Army National Guard. He was a life-long trucker and was known as “Crow” to many of his fellow truckers. He drove nearly 30 years for Yellow Freight and the past 29 years have been spent enjoying retirement and activities with family and friends. Ron enjoyed golfing, camping, boating and an occasional trip to the Midget or Sprint Car Races, or to the casino with Barbara. When at home, Ron was usually enjoying his favorite bluegrass gospel tunes while in the company of a canine or feline companion. Rocky and Peaches were notably two of his favorites.

Family was always Ron’s number one priority and he was devoted to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His marriage to Barbara Jean Hall on June 29, 1956 marked the beginning of 61 years of marriage. She preceded him on December 12, 2017. He was also preceded by his brothers, Tom, Rick and Jon Buell. Left to cherish their many memories are his sons, Lance Buell and wife Lynne of Plainfield, Illinois, Marty Buell and wife Loretta of Charleston and Greg Buell and wife Debbie of Ashmore; 11 grandchildren; 14 (soon to be 15) great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ron’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Brookstone Memory Care and his caregiver Laurel, for their exceptional care and loving compassion extended not only to Ron but to the Buell family.
