United States Air Force Retired Master Sergeant Deacon Charles Edward Melton was the third child of twelve, born on August 18, 1931 in Kendleton, Texas to the late Burel L. Melton and the late Louisa Mitchell Melton. Charles died peacefully on the beautiful morning of June 14, 2020 at his home in Kendleton, Texas.
Charles was an honor graduate of Powell Point High School, located in Kendleton, Texas. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He had many assignments over the years with the military and he traveled all over the world. Sergeant Melton served his country for 26 years with high, outstanding honors.
After his military retirement, Charles moved back to Kendleton with his wife and two youngest daughters. He was a master electrician who wired houses for the elderly and for those that were in need. He was an upstanding man in the Kendleton community and was known for his wisdom and integrity.
In 1984, Charles re-dedicated his life back to Christ, and he was a faithful steward to God’s word. He loved God and served Him until his death.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Burel and Louisa Melton; brothers, William Melton (Stafford, Tx), Victor Melton (Kendleton, Texas), and James Melton (Los Angeles, Calif.); sisters, Elsie Mae Jackson (Kendleton, Tx) and Majorie Adams (Kendleton, Tx); his beloved wife, Elois; and oldest daughter, Valinda (Redlands, Calif.).
Cherishing his memories are his son, Dwayne (Redlands, Calif.); daughters, Felicia “Lisa” (San Antonio, Tx) and Wendy (Kendleton, Tx); grandchildren, Autumn and husband, Elmore (Pasadena, Calif.) and Tervell (Redlands, Calif.); two beautiful great-granddaughters, Naia and Malia (Pasadena, Tx); sisters, Sylvia Money and husband, Wendell (Missouri City, Tx), Meredith Hargrove (Houston, Tx), Merell Brown (Kendleton, Tx), Bevelyn Williams (Richmond, Tx), and Patricia Booker (Richmond, Tx); one brother, Arthur Melton and wife, Verna (Garland, Tx); as well numerous in-laws (from California who loved him dearly), cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Due to the social distancing requirements as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will hold a public viewing (masks are mandatory) from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and a private family service for our dad on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11:00 am. Although we will not be able to accommodate other guests, please know that we appreciate the many prayers, words of comfort and gifts that we have already received. We hope to either live-stream or have other video access to the service and we will provide more information at a later date, if that is the case. Asking all prior and active military persons to wear their uniforms if possible.
