Interment will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville at 1 p.m., under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Brother Claude, Jr. passed from death to everlasting life on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born May 4th, 1932 in Oakdale to Claude Jones, Sr. and Lee Esther Sutton.
Claude was baptized at an early age and raised attending First Church of God in Christ in Oakdale, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Brother Claude was a faithful member of the Starlight Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent/Teacher and Brotherhood choir member, until his health started to decline. He attended Allen High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United State Army, where he served tours in the Korean War. Upon an honorable discharge from the military, Claude continued his education at Grambling State University, majoring in education. Claude believed in education; he knew that education was the passport to the future.
Claude was married to the late Hilda Jean Williams for 53 years and to this union, two children were born; Cheryl C. Jones and Carole D. Jones.
He later became an employee at the Calcasieu Paper Mill in Elizabeth. After the closure of the plant, Claude became employed for the Department of Engineering & Housing at Fort Polk. He was a boiler plant operator for over 20 years until retirement. He became the first black school board member of Allen Parish, paving the way for others. Claude was an outspoken person, full of God’s wisdom and always gave wise advice.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 11 years, Glenda K. Young-Jones; two daughters, Cheryl J. Garrett (Lionel) of Dayton, Ohio and Carole D. Christopher (George) of Snellville, Georgia; one son, Robert Walters of Lake Elsinor, California; three sisters, Gwen McKenzie of New Orleans, Claudia Carter of Oakdale and Dolly Guidry (Allen) of Los Angeles, California; three brothers, Don E. McKenzie (Louise) of San Diego, California, Gary McKenzie (Christine) of Seattle, Washington and Clarence W. Jones (Rodessa) of Los Angeles, California; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers to serve will be Dreden Bradley, Larry Brunson, Reginald Richard, Johnathan Bradley, Michael Randolph and Sammy Davis. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Don E. McKenzie, Clarence W. Jones, Brother Joseph Williams, Sr., George Christopher, Brother McKinley Williams, Jr., Russell Carey and Gary McKenzie.
Visitation will be held in the White Oaks Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m.
