Lewis Raymond Baker passed away peacefully June 5, 2020 at his home in Tulelake CA with his family by his side.
Lewie was born in Medford, OR on July 23, 1929 to Raymond Baker and Grace Rogers. He was one of four children. He lived in Medford until he was 8 yrs old. His father was a WWI veteran and drew a homestead in Tulelake thus relocating the family in 1938. Lewie attended Carr School in Tulelake and graduated from Tulelake High School in 1948. He helped his family farm as a young boy and well into adulthood. His love of farming never stopped. He attended Gonzaga University and San Jose State University.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954. As a Seabee he spent most of his military time in the Philippines. He was very patriotic and his favorite holiday was 4th of July; he was the biggest kid ever on that day. After his military service he returned to Tulelake to begin a long life that included raising a family, farming, and years of farm equipment and parts sales.
He married Helen Briley on January 20, 1962. They were married 55 years and had 3 children Kathleen, Carol, and John. He enjoyed, the outdoors, reading, computers, gardening, storytelling and visiting with friends. He had many friends. He loved and took great pride in Tulelake and the Klamath Basin. He was a volunteer fireman and helped with many Chamber of Commerce projects. Above all he loved and cherished his family and supported them in any way he could.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Naylor (Jack), son John Baker, granddaughter Liz Idrogo(AJ), grandsons Wesley Naylor (Miranda), Kyle Naylor, Nate Naylor (Molly), great-grandsons Anthony, Jonathan, Thaddeus, Isaac and Maddox and great-granddaughters Bryleigh and Marcella. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, infant daughter Kathleen, his parents, brothers Robert and Franklin, sister Patricia, two nieces and a nephew.
