Patrick Joseph Oates Navy veteran, WE cost accountant, Clark family man Patrick Joseph Oates, 89, of Clark, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 8:45 a.m., thence to St. Agnes Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:45 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clark. Mr. Oates was born in Teaneck, N.J., to Michael and Theresa Oates. He proudly served his country in the Navy and graduated from Seton Hall University. He lived in Rahway, N.J., prior to moving to Clark 54 years ago. Mr. Oates was a founding member of St. Agnes Church, where he also was a lector and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5503 of Clark and a volunteer at Clark Nursing Home. He was also a longtime Little League coach and loved gardening, the Yankees and dogs. He was a cost accountant at Western Electric of Kearny, N.J., for 40 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Oates is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann (Brophy) Oates; his devoted children, Kathleen Suchorsky and her husband, John; Eileen Oakes and her husband, James; Kevin Oates and his wife, Stefanie; Maureen Beik and her husband, John; and Sheila Adamski and her husband, his brothers, James and John Oates, and his twin sister, Mary Oates. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the ASPCA Memorial Donation, 1119 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, N.J. 08901 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 785817, Topeka, Kan. 66675.
