Jesse Lee Young was born August 27, 1936 in Doucette, Texas to the Mr. Isaiah Sr & Alberta Johnson Young. He was the 9th of the 13 children from this union. Shortly after his birth, the family relocated to Pineland, Texas.

Jesse attended school at Bryant High School in Pineland, Texas. While in school he met who would become the love of his life, Fayetta Adams, and soon became married. After marriage, He and Fayetta birthed and reared six children.

Jesse Lee grew into a prominent member of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Pinegrove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Rev. Felix Haynes, Jr. Under this pastorate, Jesse assumed the roles of Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and a proud member of the Male Chorus. He and his brother, Hubert proudly utilized their giftedness in carpentry while serving the church. In the latter year of 1993, the Pinegrove & Evergreen Baptist Churches of Pineland consolidated to become the Goodwill Baptist Church. Deacon Young was very instrumental in the forming of this church. Jesse proudly devoted his time and efforts as the Chairman of the Deacon Board under the leadership of Rev. Bobby L. Hudson. Then, under Deacon Young’s leadership, the church executed a pastoral search where they, in turn, entered a pastoral partnership with the Rev. Kenneth L. Cotton. Rev. Cotton served as Deacon Young’s pastor until his dying day. Shortly after the benediction of Rev. Cotton’s last Goodwill sermon, the family received the call of Deacon Young’s passing. Upon sickness, Jesse was elevated to Deacon Emeritus. He served as an advisor to the church until his passing.
