John Albert Longnecker

SPRINGFIELD, MO: John Albert Longnecker, age 90, formerly of Marion, passed away early Saturday morning at St. John Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

John was born in Marion on February 27, 1920 to John and Myrla (Turner) Longnecker. He served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII and while in Marion was a supervisor at the Erie Railroad. Upon moving to Springfield, Missouri he was employed by General Electric as a diesel locomotive engineer. John was a member of Marion Lodge #70 F & AM as well as the A.A.S.R. - Valley of Columbus and was known far and wide as the "Mr. Fixit" to his friends and neighbors.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Longnecker in 2004; two sisters; and three brothers.

Surviving is his son, Michael (Gail) Shields of Bluffton, South Carolina; two brothers, William (Marlene) Longnecker of Kansas, and Robert (Teim) Longnecker of Florida; a sister, Betty (Bill) Wilson of Florida; two granddaughters, Kristy Sexton and Misty Saha; four great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Pauline Bowen of Fredericktown.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Colleen Ogle officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Heights Memory Garden where military honors will be observed by the Marion County Joint Veteran's Council.
