James “Cowboy” Edward Lay, 69, of Muskogee was born July 28, 1950 in Muskogee to Clyde and Callie (McKee) Lay and passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 in Tulsa, OK.
He was the 11th of 12 children. James received his formal education then started his landscaping and tree trimming business. He had an eye for landscaping and building beautiful flower beds or trimming trees, to make them look their best. He loved the outdoors and had a huge heart for animals. James always had a dog by his side. He also had a love with tinkering with old cars and lawnmowers. James retired from the landscaping business in 2017.
One of his proudest moments was when he adopted Brittany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; J.C., Bill, J.R.; sisters, Pauline, Margaret and Anna.
James is lovingly survived by his daughter, Brittany Cooper and her husband Kevin of Mannford, OK; grandchildren, Paige, Cheyenne and Ty Cooper; brothers, Tommy Lay of Muskogee, Donald Lay, Jerry Dean Lay; sisters, Betty Stinnet and Ruby Randall; Brittany’s mother, LeAnn Killman.
A family conducted memorial service will be held at a later date.
