James was born July 29, 1936, in Newton, Iowa the son of Clarence and Mary (Park) Hutchison. On Aug. 26, 1960, he married Marlene L. Little in Knoxville. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise E. (Wayne) Hensley of Galesburg; a son, Brian J. (Julie) Hutchison of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Matthew Hensley, Jacob Hensley, Sierra Hutchison, William Hutchison and Nathanial Hutchison; a sister, Alice Johnson of Galesburg; a brother-in-law, Raymond Nelson of Gilson; a special companion, Elizabeth Olson of New Brighton, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Lynda Nelson.
He worked as an operating engineer in construction for the Local 649. He was a member of the OAKS in Galesburg and Young's Lake in Kirkwood. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and playing cards; he spent his winters in Texas. He was a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville. Rev. Mary Runge will officiate. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the Comfort House, 1617 W.
