He flew 20 combat missions during the Korean War and 284 combat missions during the Vietnam War. Among his military awards and decorations were the Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; the Bronze Star; and the Air Medal with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters for his combat service.
He was predeceased by his parents, Olan Watson and Lenora Lively Bright; and his son LCDR (Ret) Randall Edward Watson USCG. He was survived survived by his wife of 63 years; a daughter; and a brother and his spouse.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at McCullough Funeral Home, Warner Robins, GA. Interment on August 12, 2020, the same day as the interment of his son next to him at Arlington.
