June 14th is a day of celebration for many reasons, but to our family this is the day Norma Faye Paul Perry blessed the world with her presence, and also the day she left it forever changed.

Norma was born into the Bethel Community, on June 14, 1936, and entered eternal rest, surrounded by her loved ones, in the early morning hours of June 14, 2020 at the age of 84. She was the daughter of Allie and Millie Paul, and the sixth of thirteen children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sampson Perry; her mother and father, as well as her siblings, Gilbert, Leo, Verna Mae, Mertie, Carl, CJ, and Alvie.

Norma is survived by her siblings: Allie Paul Jr, Betty Willis, Leola Burkett, Evy Lou Ashworth, and Faye Bedean Hillman, as well as her children: Daniel Perry and wife, Elizabeth Joan, Juan Perry and wife, Michelle, Myra Perry, and Paulette Mays and husband, Robbie. She also leaves behind, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

At the age of twelve, Norma led the church choir, playing the piano with only one finger. She began learning shape notes while attending the O.C. Thompson singing school, making her way towards becoming a church pianist for over sixty years. Her father, Allie, and his children, known far and wide as the Paul Family or Paul Sisters, faithfully carried the Gospel of Jesus through song for many years.

At a young age, she began working at the Calcasieu International Paper Company in Elizabeth, Louisiana. Later, she went on to work for the Magnolia State Life Insurance Company, where she loved drinking coffee with her clients. She never failed to give a listening ear and a kind word to those in need. Later, she took on the role of a professional serger while working at the Oakdale Dress Factory. To finish out her career, she became a caregiver to the elderly, and never missed an opportunity to minister with love.

During her time at Calcasieu International Paper, Norma played first base, where she made the journey to Oklahoma, and was part of the World Championship Softball Team. Her love for the game never faded, being carried on through her children and grandchildren who made her proud every time they stepped on the field.

Early mornings would find a Bible in her lap, pouring over the scriptures, always desiring to grow closer in her love relationship with the Lord. Through this love, she developed a servant’s heart, which she displayed in her constant service toward her family and community. Summer days brought her great joy as she spent countless hours working in her yard and tending to her garden. Many an afternoon, Norma could be found visiting on her porch, surrounded by her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Though she leaves behind countless lessons of wisdom, nothing is greater than the legacy of faith she instilled not only in her family, but all who knew her.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Reynard, Ryan, Rory, Clay, Brennan, and Cade. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Hannah, Tori, Karli, Haiden, Millie, and Jordan.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Guardian Hospice for tenderly and diligently caring for Norma, specifically Elexis and Amanda for going above and beyond.
