Joy Kathleen Porter was a mother and grandmother who spent much of her life in California before she died in the Camp Fire.

Her former husband, Dennis Clark, described her as a very good grandmother and mother. Their son, Dennis Clark Jr., moved up to Paradise around the same time and also perished in the fire.

Porter was a grandmother to Dennis Clark Jr.'s three children, Ryan, Cedric, and Cynthia.

Porter worked at restaurants early in their marriage, Clark said. They later ran a store for a few years in San Jose, where they raised their three sons for several years before moving to Reno.

While Clark and Porter decided to end their 25-year marriage years ago, they remained good friends, he said. Porter moved to Paradise several years ago to be near her parents, Clark said.

Porter survived immense tragedies, including the death of their son in 1985 and the more recent deaths of her parents and sister, Clark said.

According to a local mortuary, Porter was born Aug. 16, 1946, in California.
