On April 15, 1951 she married Robert Hicks in Crown Point, Indiana and the couple took up residence in Gillett, where they raised three sons.
Mae was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and also enjoyed being involved as a den mother with Cub Scouts. She was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Gillett. Mae and Bob served as Grand Marshal of the 4th of July Parade in 2000. Mae always enjoyed camping and doing things with her family and traveling.
She is survived by three sons: Wayne (Laura) Hicks, Kurt Hicks and John (Denise) Hicks; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
