Doris Rathbun Knight, 84, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020. She moved to Jacksonville from Ocala in 2012 after the passing of her husband, the late Paul Revere Knight. She was born in Washington Heights, New York City, NY to Roger and Armenia Rathbun. She graduated with a Master’s degree in History and Government from the University of Massachusetts. Her employment included working at the telephone company, editing for Webster’s Dictionary, and teaching for 31 years as a professor at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Mass. She is the namesake of the “Doris Rathbun Knight Scholarship”, awarded at Holyoke Community College. She loved beagles and raised many during her lifetime. Doris retired and moved to Kennebunkport, Maine where she was involved with local politics, historical society, and planning committees. Doris and her husband moved to Ocala in 2004 to escape the winters and be closer to their son Roger.



Doris is survived by her son, Roger Knight and fiancé Mary Hartman both of Jacksonville, several cousins, and many good friends.

No services are scheduled. Mrs. Knight’s final resting place will be with her husband at Highland Memorial Park in Ocala, FL.
