Irene Payne Adams, daughter of Andrew F. and Ida Frances Stewart Payne, was born on 8-10-1894, in Coryell County, Texas.
She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1912 and attended Baylor University, Tarleton State College, and Howard Payne College to prepare for her thirty-six-year career as a teacher in Coryell County, Texas. She taught in rural schools at Mt. Zion, Hemmeline, Amity, Flat, and the Gatesville School for Boys, as well as teaching art in the Gatesville ISD Elementary school. She retired from teaching in 1948.
She and Kenneth Ray Adams were married on 12-22-1924.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the Garden Club in Gatesville, Texas, as well as the Ben Milam Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in Temple, Texas.
Irene enjoyed many hobbies including oil and water color painting, needle work, and other craft work.
