Davis. Matriculated from Palmer Springs, VA. At VMI 1 year, 9 months over 3 years. Military Record: Enlisted as a Private in Company B, 56th Virginia in 1861; was discharged due to ill health on Nov. 26, 1861; Matriculated to VMI on Feb. 16, 1863 into Company C, but fought at New Market with an artillery detachment; left VMI on Feb. 25, 1865; unofficial source indicates he was appointed a First Lieutenant and assigned to the army in the Carolinas (probably Col J.G.
