The three children that are shown here as "adopted" and raised by Pampa Jane were actually her grandchildren. Jesse Herman, Ewell and Willie Veach were left when their mother Arre Bertha (McAlpin) Veach died in 1907. Their father, William Thomas Veach, had died in 1906.

Pampa, daughter of George Washington Carter and Elizabeth Moss, married James Alfred McAlpin [b 25 Dec 1856 in Jackson Co, Tennesse - d 14 Apr 1930 in Arkansas City, Cowley, Kansas]. Both are buried in Riverview Cemetery.

Known children of James and Pampa are: Mamie, Iva Bell, and Floy F.

MRS. PAMPA McALPINE DIES AT AGE OF 82

"Mrs. Pampa Jane McAlpine, 82, died at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Hargrove, 105 South Eleventh Street, after a long illness.

Born February 21, 1856 in Moss (Clay County) Tenn., she was married to James Alfred McAlpine in Saline, Tenn., Mar. 17, 1884.

The couple moved to Howe, Tex., in 1890, thence to Mangum, Okla., in 1894 and to Arkansas City from Willow, Okla., in 1919.

Mrs. McAlpine was a member of the Christian church which she joined when she was 18 years of age.

Surviving her are one son, Lindsay, Granite, Okla.: two other daughters in addition to Mrs. Mamie Hargrove, Mrs. Iba Hargrove, Wauneta, Kansas and Mrs. Floy York, Oklahoma City; two deceased children and three adopted children she reared from infancy, J. Herman Veach, Van Nuys, Cal., Ewell Veach, Ryan, Okla., and Mrs. Willie Henthorn, Wichita: 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, a brother, Anthony Carter, Moss, Tenn., and a sister, Mrs. H.H. McCarthy, Dallas.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 pm in the Grant Elder Funeral Home with the Rev. Dayle Schneile officiating. Burial will be at Riverview cemetery at the side of her husband who died April 14, 1930."
