GREENSBORO - Susie Williams Lancaster passed away at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center in Greensboro on Monday morning, October 31, 2011.
Susie was born September 22, 1919 near Baker's Crossroads, in Rockingham County, North Carolina to Laura Roberts Williams and Charlie James Williams, the fifth of six brothers and sisters. She grew up on the family farm in Rockingham County and attended business college for two years.
In 1939, she married George W. Lancaster with whom she had three children, Keith Earnhardt (James Earnhardt), Gayle McVean (Dino McVean) and Jim Lancaster (Camille). She lived later in Baltimore, MD and Oakland CA before returning to live in High Point and later Greensboro. Susie became President of J.M. Lancaster Inc., a woodworking machinery manufacturer, upon the death of husband George in 1960. She remained in this position until her retirement and the subsequent sale of the company in 2001.
She worked tirelessly to support her family and was a loved and loving mother, sister and daughter. Susie was the last survivor of her siblings and will be missed by her three adult children and spouses, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who survive her.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
