Frances Ellen Springston was born to John Perry Wood and Rebecca Emyline Hibbs Wood. She was married first to James L. Hamilton, and they had two daughters, Esther M. Hamilton and Naomi Hamilton. When he died in 1923, she remarried William O. Scully. He died in 1943. She remarried a third time to Jerry Springston.

I loved my Granny Springston. When I was a very little girl, I remember her singing "I've Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in my Heart". And I remember watching the Jackie Gleason show with her, and the "June Taylor Dancers". Granny called me her "sugar plum".
