Even though Gladys lived alone the last 33 years of her life, she remained active and enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved being outdoors and spent much of her time doing yard work and gardening whenever possible. She would even go to her childrens homes to help with the yardwork there. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards each week with her friends.
Gladys belonged to AREWS, the Association of Retired Enlisted Wives, where she participated in various activities, and was a member of the St. John Bosco Church in Lakewood. For almost 30 years, she worked part time at the Ft. Lewis Main Chapel offering childcare during services. Her love of children was evident whenever she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All the kids that visited her knew where she always kept the cookies, and they went straight to the closet to play with the toys she kept for just such occasions. She loved them all so much and was loved even more in return.
A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA. however, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, services have been postponed indefinitely. Notification of the future time and date will be posted here along with her obituary.
